Overview
The Jardin du Trocadéro occupies the hillside below the Palais de Chaillot and provides what is, for many visitors, the defining view of Paris: the Eiffel Tower framed by the curving wings of the Palais and reflected in the long pools of the Warsaw Fountain. The garden was created for the 1937 World Exposition, replacing the earlier Palais du Trocadéro from the 1878 Exposition. Its terraced design descends from the Palais de Chaillot through tree-lined walkways, ornamental pools, and the spectacular fountain to the Pont d'Iéna and the Seine. Below the garden, in the limestone cliffs of the hill, lies the Aquarium de Paris — one of the largest aquariums in France.
